Lodestar is a brand new short-term educational setting, opening through Autumn 2017 in response to the growing number of children in the region who require some bespoke additional support and guidance.

At Lodestar we believe that all our young people have the potential to achieve in school and succeed in life, and we ensure that our pupils have the opportunity to flourish regardless of their starting points or circumstances. We want all our pupils to become creative, confident citizens who are happy in themselves and ambitious for success.

Some of our pupils will have been struggling with managing their behaviours in previous schools, others with managing emotions, but all Lodestar pupils have come to us to receive some vital structured guidance to help them to manage, develop and grow towards positive outcomes.

Our pupils’ varying needs are addressed through a number of teaching and learning strategies that include engaging learning topics, enhanced responses to behavioural needs and targeted interventions, all of which are underpinned by outstanding pastoral care and support.

Our curriculum focuses on re-engaging pupils with learning through short topic based lessons. We will be offering a range of smaller qualifications for pupils that allow them to achieve and progress in the time they are with us, before moving on to their next school or provision.

A strong pastoral programme, which includes timetabled sessions on emotional strategies, smaller group sizes, a well-structured programme of support meetings, and regular solution focused tutorial sessions underpins the ethos at Lodestar. Our pastoral programme has been carefully designed to prepare our pupils ready for the next stage of their education, as well as promoting a wider range of progression routes available for our pupils.

If you have any questions about our work, or would like to talk to a member of staff, please do not hesitate to contact us at the school. We are always keen to help in any way.
